Course 4
Making a “Cutting Edge Crafts” app to sell your maker creations
Develop a craft selling app prototype to sell maker objects from the makerspace courses.
Make sure you have completed the first and second courses (Introduction to Adalo and Making a Memory Stream app) before you start this course.
Unit 1 – Choosing an idea
One of the largest marketplace apps in the world is Etsy. It provides the app platform, and lets anyone upload photos and information about things they are selling. For this app, we will make an app that only has your own products on it, but if you wanted to include other people’s products too, you could find ways to build that as an extension.

For your app, you should choose what sort of marketplace app to make. If you have learned how to make crafts on some of the Innovation Hub maker space courses, you could use this app course to make an app specific to the type of objects you want to sell.

You can make your app very specific about what type of product it sells, or you can be specific about the style or topic of the products you sell. For example you could be interested in running, superhero characters, and 3d printing, so you could make an app to sell your 3D printed superhero themed running accessories. The more that your products can stand out, the more popular your app will be.
Write down your ideas for the type of marketplace you want to make, and discuss the ideas with a variety of other people (eg: friends, family, tutors) to help narrow down the type of audience you want the users of your app to be.
When you are happy with your idea, you can start building the app.
