Introduction to Adalo

An introduction to the Adalo app maker website, showing the 3 key features that are needed to build an app: screens, components and collections.

Unit 1

Lesson 1 - Setting up your first app

Adalo is a website that allows anyone to build apps. It is a “no code” tool, which means that you don’t have to know how to code to use it. Instead, it provides a user interface where you can build and edit an app using the buttons and features from Adalo. We will create responsive apps, which means they can adapt to any screen and device.

Follow the instructions on screen to create an account, making sure to remember your username and password.

You may see a screen asking “How will you primarily use Adalo”. You can choose Personal Use here.

When you log in for the first time, you will see a screen asking you to set up your first app. If you have already setup an app, Adalo will show you that app on log in. In this case you can click the dropdown menu at the top of the screen, and select Create New App to continue.

Choose “Responsive App” when Adalo asks what type of App you want to make. This type of app responds to the size of screen and is a more modern type of app.

Choose “Blank Desktop First” when Adalo asks to choose a template. In later lessons you can choose a template, but for your first app it’s more useful to start from scratch.

On the next screen, you need to give your app a name. We will use this app in the next unit, so you can call it “Memory Stream”. You need to choose 2 colors that will be the color scheme for your app. You can change this later, but try to choose colors that you like and that work well together. If you need some ideas for colors, you can visit this useful website: https://coolors.co/
