Introduction to Adalo

An introduction to the Adalo app maker website, showing the 3 key features that are needed to build an app: screens, components and collections.

Unit 1

Lesson 2 – Building Blocks: Screens

In this lesson you will learn to make the home screen for your app.

Take a look around Adalo to get familiar with the features. You have a menu bar on the left that you will use to add and change features. On the right there is a large space containing all your “screens” - the different pages that your users will be able to see. You will have 4 default screens at this stage. The home screen is what your users will see when they login. This home screen can have a welcome message, some information about your app, and any design that you want.

Click on the word “Home” above the home screen to activate it.

You can now add a welcome message on the home screen.

Click the large + icon on the top left of the screen. Then choose “Add Component”. Find and click the “Text” option. You can now move your mouse across to the Home screen and position the text box onto the screen.

Now change the text to your own welcome message. To do this, click on the text box to activate it, then go to the left hand menu and edit the text. See if you can also change the text colour (look for the paint palette button).

You can also change the top navigation bar on the Home screen. Click on the Home screen again to activate it, then go to the left menu and click on the “navigation bar” entry to edit. You can add the name of your app to the bar.

You now need to add another screen, which will display information. Click the large + button on the top left, then click Add Screen. Click “Blank Desktop First”, then add a name for the new screen in the popup. Call it “Items”.

We will edit this screen in the next lessons.
