Creating your own projects with AI
Unit 2 – Idea generation with AI
Lesson 3: Using AI visual whiteboarding
Visual whiteboard is a technique that is often a useful tool for teams to work on problems together. Simply using a whiteboard is a good way to get your ideas into a format that everyone can see, prompting discussions and new ideas.

Virtual whiteboards on your computer have the advantage of being able to move notes and ideas around, collaborate with people in different places and share them to come back to later.

Eraser and Miro are both web-based AI whiteboard sites that have added AI capabilities. You can choose one of the Interactives below to learn more about using AI with whiteboards.

INTERACTIVE 1
You will work with a partner to create a flow diagram on the Eraser Whiteboard using AI.
-
Think of something you do every day, or something you want to do, such as learn a new sport or skill, start a business or plan an adventure.
-
Open the Eraser chatbot creation tool at: https://www.eraser.io/diagramgpt
-
Construct your prompt by asking the bot to make a flowchart for your selected topic.

Here are some examples:

A flow diagram for starting a business making and selling laser cut wooden ornaments. Starting with designing the objects, through to setting up a website to sell them.

A sequence diagram for driving from Abu Dhabi to Dubai

A flowchart for learning how to juggle 5 balls at once

When you have your diagram, you can add comments and other notes. You can only edit the panel using the code section, but you could replicate the diagram with your own edits using the drag and drop whiteboard tools on Eraser.

INTERACTIVE 2
Miro is a virtual whiteboard that uses sticky notes to help you list ideas. We will use this feature to create lots of sticky notes about a theme. Then we will use Miro's AI features to help you organise these notes.

You have 5 minutes to list as many sticky notes as you can.
Each note should contain one answer to this question:
What is a fun thing to do where you live?
To add many sticky notes at once, click the sticky note icon on the toolbar, then click “Bulk mode”.
When you have added all your notes, you can sort and edit them with Miro’s Assist AI. You can use ‘by keyword’ or ‘by sentiment’. Select all your notes and then click on the magic icon in the toolbar and select the grouping that you want.
-
“By keyword” will create groups of your notes that the AI program selects as similar.
-
“By sentiment” will create groups that have a similar perspective or viewpoint, eg: positive, negative or neutral.

You can also generate an image to go along with a note. Click the note, then select “generate image” on the Assist button.

AI tools like these grouping features can be really useful ways to organising wild ideas in ways that you may not choose yourself, helping you find the most creative and interesting parts of the process.

An example of ideas for a birthday card, being organised by keyword.
