Creating your own projects with AI
Unit 2 – Idea generation with AI
Lesson 2: Expanding on ideas with a Generative AI chatbot
To learn about expanding on your ideas, we can consider a real-life example of a creative project. Further down this page there is a design brief for making a new building in Abu Dhabi that will act as a community meeting place. You will use a chatbot to copy and paste the brief into the bot. This will allow you to ask specific questions about the brief to help you come up with ideas.

INTERACTIVE
Have a 2-3 minute talk in groups about what you would want to build for this design brief. What would it look like? What features would you want to build inside and outside? What would the meeting rooms look like? And the exercise areas?

When you have had some ideas, add the brief to a chatbot and use it to help you generate more ideas.
Often we get stuck on our original ideas, so creating more ideas can help you be more creative and come up with things you wouldn’t have thought of originally. You could ask things like:

I want to put a climbing wall outside the building. I want to make it the shape of a local animal. What shape could it be and what could it be made of?

We thought that a movie theatre would be a good addition to the building. Can you suggest 5 different themes for the lobby that would fit in with the brief?

Can you give me some different ideas for the layout of the meeting rooms in the brief? Include the style of furniture and any multimedia that would be needed.

Discuss in your group what you think of the suggestions from the chatbot.
Are there any that you would want to develop into your own idea?
Did the process of consulting the chatbot help you come up with more ideas?

Using AI without human input will likely just create ideas that already exist. Using it as a helper for your own ideas means that you get the input from its large training datasets, but your own creative skills can elevate this data into something more interesting. Getting input from professionals can ensure that these ideas are feasible and safe…something that an AI can’t be sure about!
