Course 2
Using and Training AI

Unit 3 – Creating your own training data

Lesson 2: Training a chatbot

Tailoring an AI chatbot to each person’s needs is a complex task, but currently some programs have that ability. This ability will likely get much better in the near future, as work continues on making AI programs more useful.

We will use Chatnode AI - an AI chatbot where you can upload and train the program with your own data that the bot will analyse and respond to.

Go to ChatNode AI and create an account using your email address.

INTERACTIVE

Discuss with a partner what sort of chatbot you want. You could give the chatbot information about your favourite hobby, books or movies. The most useful information for you to use may be something about you, so that the chatbot can help you understand your own information more clearly. You could upload a document that you already have, like your resume or a school report, or it could be a text from the internet, like a news article or a report from someone else.

Here are some examples of documents you can try if you do not have your own:

  • A news article about something you’re passionate about.

  • An essay you have written for an assignment.

  • A description of something that you want to understand better, such as a science concept or historical event.

  • One or more wikipedia pages that all relate to an event or concept that you want to understand.

Have the text you need either in a document on your computer or open in a web page, then go to ChatNode and click on “create new Chatbot”.

You can Upload your file to the site, paste the text from a web page or use the URL from the web page to get the data to your chatbot on the ChatNode site. Click the relevant button to add the data, and wait until the program has analysed the file.

You’re now ready to ask it a question. Here are some examples of questions you could ask.

  • What else should I add to this document I have written?

  • Can you critique the writing style in this document?

  • Can you summarise this report in a paragraph?

  • What are the main arguments in this article?

  • Are there other issues on this topic that aren’t covered in the report?

  • What are the 5 most important parts of this concept that I need to understand?

  • Where can I find more information about this subject?

ChatNode also lets you write a prompt for the style of the responses the bot generates. Have a go at editing this prompt to see how the responses change.

This is the end of Course 2. You have learned a wide variety of AI skills and background knowledge so far. Take some time to recap on your work and, if you have time, add more details to the ones that you enjoyed the most.

In the next course we will continue to work with AI to extend your skills and understanding of different systems.
